Wool

Description

Wool, often from shearing sheep, has been used for thousands of years to make clothes. Today, Australia and New Zealand are the main suppliers.

It is highly appreciated for its suppleness, softness and durability. It is elasticated and adopts its original shape after being stretched and does not wrinkle easily. Its heat insulating and breathability properties also make it a fabric which ensures quality and adapts to all climates.

Different types of wool are determined by several criteria:

  • When shearing takes place. For example, new wool is the wool obtained when an animal is first sheared. It is the purest wool.
  • The composition or blend.
  • The animal. Other rarer wools and wools with more advantageous properties exist: alpaca, mohair, angora, vicuna, cashmere... They are much more expensive and demanding in terms of care.

Care

To avoid the jumper shrinking during washing, washing in lukewarm water at 30°C, preferably by hand with a special wool detergent, is recommended. To dry, water should be absorbed by rolling it in a dry towel. Do not under any circumstances wring the jumper! Then lie it flat (a hanger could distort the shape) to air dry.
